SPORTS PREMIUM

WHAT IS SPORTS PREMIUM?

The government is providing school sport funding of £150 million – 2015-2017. This funding is jointly provided by the Department for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport and will be sent directly to primary schools, to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all students.

HOW DO WE USE IT?

Professional development of staff in Physical Education

Provision of external coaches to provide expert tuition and taster sessions for students and staff in various activities such as football, athletics, multi skills, karate, dance, cycling and cricket

Provision of cover to enable staff release to attend continued professional development

Introduction of health and fitness elements into lessons, specifically targeting the importance of regular exercise, linking in with the schools health targets

Developing sensory dance resources for use across key stages

Provision of KS2 booster swimming sessions

Utilising local sports facilities to offer different activities

WHAT WE AIM TO ACHIEVE

  • Increased awareness of how to lead a healthy lifestyle

  • Increased participation in physical education

  • Increased participation in intra and inter school opportunities

  • Establish monitoring of teaching in PE and sharing good practice

  • Develop systems of sharing good practice of external coaches delivery

  • Develop a broad and balanced curriculum

  • Develop out of school hours (OOSH) physical activity choices

  • Raise the profile of Physical Education internally and externally

  • Improve community links to support PE and the school sport curriculum

  • Increase the contribution of physical activity and sport in pupils overall achievement

THE DIFFERENCE IT HAS MADE

  • Increased the quality of PE across school.

  • Attainment of participating pupils has increased (B Squared assessment).

  • Pupils are more aware of the short term effects  of exercise.

  • Pupils have participated and competed in competitive school sports activities

  • Pupils have accessed events through the County inclusion program.
