SPORTS PREMIUM

WHAT IS SPORTS PREMIUM?

The government continues to provide the Primary PE and School Sport funding of £320 million since 2017. This funding is jointly provided by the Department for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport and will be sent directly to primary schools, to spend on improving the quality of Sport and PE for all students. All children and young people should live healthy active lives. The UK Chief Medical Officers recommend that all children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities should take part in moderate to vigorous exercise for at least 20 minutes of daily physical activity.

HOW DO WE USE IT?

Professional development of staff in Physical Education.

Work with high quality external coaches to provide expert tuition and taster sessions for students and staff in various activities such as football, basketball, cricket, dance, gymnastics and yoga.

Provision of cover to enable staff release to attend continued professional development events.

Introduction of health and fitness elements into lessons, specifically targeting the importance of regular exercise, linking it into the long-term school health and activity targets.

Utilising local and specialist sports facilities to offer different high quality activity areas such as the Indoor Sports Hall at Consett Academy.

Attendance at local and regional inter-school SEND competitions and activities to develop pupils’ self-confidence, promote independence and have access to fun and exciting opportunities in their local community.
